Community & Safety Guidelines
Effective October 7, 2026
Waypoint works because drivers share what they see. These guidelines keep that information useful and keep everyone safe. They are part of our Terms of Use.
Safety first
- Hands off while moving. Pick your destination before you drive. Only report when stopped, or let a passenger tap it.
- The road wins. Signs, signals, police directions and what you can see always beat the app.
- Alerts are a heads-up, not a command. Don’t brake hard, swerve or change lanes suddenly because of a camera or report alert.
- Emergencies: call 911. Waypoint does not contact emergency services.
Good reports
- Report only what you actually see, where you see it, right now.
- Choose the closest type: police, crash, hazard, construction, closure, weather, speed trap, pothole or camera.
- Tap Still there or Not there when you pass someone else’s report. This keeps the map honest, and reports with two or more “Not there” votes are removed.
- Remove your own report if you made a mistake.
- See a fake, dangerous or abusive report? Tap it and choose Flag. Reports flagged by several drivers are removed for everyone, and we review flags.
- Tap Block driver on a report to stop seeing anything that driver posts. They aren’t told, and you never see who they are. Undo it in Settings → Privacy.
Not allowed
- Fake, joke or revenge reports, or reports meant to clear a road for yourself.
- Reports that could send people into danger, like a false “all clear”.
- Using Waypoint to flee or evade a traffic stop, or to interfere with police, fire or ambulance crews.
- Damaging, covering, moving or tampering with any camera, or encouraging others to.
- Following, filming, harassing or threatening police officers, camera installers or anyone else.
- Spam, automated accounts or using several accounts to boost points or votes.
We may remove reports and suspend or delete accounts that break these rules. Accounts are also limited to 20 reports per hour.
Cameras on the map
Camera locations come from OpenStreetMap volunteers. If you see a camera that is missing, wrong or gone, tap it and choose Report a mistake to leave a note on OpenStreetMap, or add it with the DeFlock project. Only map what you can see from a public place, and never trespass or stop in traffic to do it.
Privacy of others
Reports are anonymous and only include a type, place and time. Don’t try to identify other drivers, and don’t post anyone’s personal information anywhere connected to Waypoint.
